SOPHIE

I’ve been with Team Grit OCR on their Athlete development program for just over two months now (wow) it feels like way longer than that! I can’t even begin to explain my experience so far as I have nothing but amazing things to say about it! Over such a short time I have really transformed as a person - not just physically but mentally also.

The biggest thing that stood out for me is the people behind it - Jessie & Sean - and how they have pure love and passion for what they do and how they have a family/community approach to all their athletes that work with them and how they can make things fun and enjoyable!

Sean and his programming, especially for myself who has only just joined OCR, has made it into something that I know I will love doing and I can see myself progressing over time with him! He’s really adapted to me and my needs especially with my work and moving sessions around to suit it - he’s been a star!!

I love the conditioning session that he sets the most as it’s never focusing on one area such as a single run or a single weights session - it's the variety that I really like and Sean programmes it perfectly to get that! It's also a great one to show progression and it highlights the areas that are weaker which we can work on. Plus I don’t think I have a go easy setting on me for these sessions... I always pretty much put my heart and soul into them! #allgritnoquit

‘As somebody who is still fairly new to OCR, I approached Sean after my first elite race as I was unhappy with my performance. I asked if he would put together a programme which would cover all the necessary bases for an elite Spartan Sprint. Sean asked about my goals, current training plan and what I could realistically achieve with regards to training commitments/time etc. It was clear how passionate and knowledgeable he was about all aspects of OCR - every question had a detailed answer. Just a few days later, I was presented with the program and it didn’t disappoint.

Sean put together an extensive and extremely well thought out program which perfectly suited my ability. Although I have always considered myself to have a good base-line fitness, the program certainly highlighted some weakness which I may never have noticed prior to the race without his coaching.

Following the twelve week training block, I felt great and I was confident going into the race. I would definitely recommend Sean to any aspiring OCR athletes, or indeed anyone who has raced for many years!

Compared to my first race, and despite terrible weather, I gained five places, finished in a quicker time and just missed out on a top ten placing in only my second Spartan elite race.

The only difference? The training and preparation!’

Before I reached out to Team Grit to help me train smart, I found myself doing not enough or way too much, and quite often ignored importance of rest and recovery. I was obsessed over my training (in a way far from positive) and there was no structure to it. So, after following the Team Grit OCR 4 weeks COVID-19 home workout program and with noticing how much it improved my strength by the end of the week 4, I was simply hungry for more!

I reached out to Sean about 1:1 coaching and when I discussed my goals with him he listened to me and understood exactly where I was coming from. Sean designed my training to help me work towards my goals in the way which suits my current situation - with no access to the gym and lack of equipment. I like how training takes me out of my comfort zone but always leaves me satisfied... and I can’t wait for the next one! Thanks to Sean I no longer fail at rambling attempts to do things but instead I follow focused, effective workouts.

It makes a huge difference to me to have someone else to hold me accountable to my training. I would say with full confidence that nothing is more effective than having a coach to guide you to have someone with the knowledge who is also invested in your goals and who can provide you with a clear plan.

Reaching out to Sean was one of the best decisions I made this year! Both Jessie and Sean are huge inspiration to me. They are kind of people I want to surround myself with. Positive, knowledgeable, supportive and enthusiastic!

I started training with Sean three years ago. At the time I couldn't run 1km, 10 burpees was a struggle and a press up was a distant dream. Fast forward three years and I regularly compete in Spartan races, I completed my first ultra marathon, I do burpees for fun and not only can I do press ups but I can do pull ups to! I couldn't have done any of this without Sean and Jessie.

Sean is an excellent coach. Unlike so many coaches he spends considerable time perfecting form and getting the basics right from the start. This means that not only have I remained injury free but I really understand my training. Sean has given me the confidence to push myself further than I thought possible but also the knowledge that recovery is key and real sustainable progress takes time.

Jessie is my OCR inspiration! She really cares about other people and their goals and achievements. She is always the first person I message when something goes well. She is also the person I turn to when things don't go to plan. She is positive but pragmatic and a great person to train with.

Jessie and Sean live and breath OCR. They train hard, inspire others and always know where to find the best pizza after a race!

‘Sean's Spartan bootcamps are varied, fun and always challenging. I'm dripping in sweat about 10 minutes into the class and you can be sure to feel the burn for days afterwards. Sean keeps us motivated and his encouragement means we don't give up through the grueling sets of burpees.

I also love the technique bootcamp classes where there is more time to refine our strategies for approaching obstacles. I've definitely seen an improvement in my confidence and skills since starting Sean's Spartan bootcamp and I love the community vibe you get high fiving fellow workout buddies on the hot stair runs!’
